Hello! I really dont like writing anything about me but here goes! Just in case you want to know a bit more about your potential photographer and what makes me tick!
I’m Sharon, an award winning Lincolnshire Wedding and Portrait Photographer specialising in capturing stylish and elegant images of your day. I live in the village of Billingborough between Sleaford and Bourne, making me ideally placed for commissions in Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Nottinghamshire. I have however covered wedding photography all over the UK. Still waiting for my first paid commision abroad though……… although I did do an impromptu free wedding shoot on holiday in Florida once!
I am a mum too currently putting my kids through university, and I adore skiing and sailing – great opportunities for taking photographs!
My foray into portrait photography happened after an unfortunate photo experience with my then 18 month old son. Those of us with kids have all done it haven’t we – taken our child into the local retail store for a set of “bargain” priced photos. You guessed it – he hated the experience and screamed but being the doting mum I bought all the pictures anyway and realised I could have done better myself. And so “Little Cherubs Professional Child Portraits” was born.
Years of taking child portraits later and I was being asked more and more to do wedding photography so I eventually decided I needed a more grown up name and Symply Photography was created. Why do I spell it wrong (rubbish for search engines I know!!) – because my initials are SYM – simple!
I have found I have a real empathy for wedding photography – I really try to immerse myself into the whole day – being a mum myself and getting teary eyed just thinking of the day when my own daughter (eventually!) gets married, I know all too well the emotions bubbling under the surface : you can usually find me offering comforting hugs and tissues to the brides mum at the moment she sees her daughter in the dress. Thankfully my sense of humour also keeps me going when I see the brides dad bounding from bathroom to bedroom in just his boxers (Dave and Jeff – you know who you are!!!)
It is the invisible side of being a photographer that people don’t realise – we are there by your side throughout the whole day and I love the intimacy and the banter that goes with that. And I end up with fabulous wedding photos that capture those moments (ok not the boxer shot!) I have a very laid back, unobstrusive and relaxed approach to my photography which seems to go down well my clients. I don’t bark orders, or blow a whistle (yes some do!!) or stop the day in its tracks – I just go with the flow – its all very easygoing and friendly! It has been noted that lots of my wedding photos involve people holding their drinks – not a bad style I think! I also love winter weddings - some photographers baulk at them as they involve low light situations but I relish the chance to show off some pretty special lighting techniques. I luckily have a Landrover (normal for Lincolnshire!) so getting stuck in the snow isn’t something I have to worry about ( unlike one or two of my fellow photographers whose lovely BMW’s didn’t make it – and had to call on the services of other wedding photographers
)
Being female helps enormously – I know instinctively how to make a bride look elegant and stylish – and look out for the tiny details that blokes just don’t get (turning necklaces round!) , lipstick on teeth and being able to fix veils when they fall off. My years of photographing children helps as well – I go back into child photographer mode when they are around and can usually coax a smile out of them – I aways carry a pot of bubbles with me!
I am currently being mentored by one of the top Society Photographers in the country (See my blog for details!) and this is really coming through in my images now – I am very excited about where this is going to take me in the future. Last year I gained my Licentiateship in the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers and with the mentoring that is happening my aim is to achieve the next level up in the next few months – I recently gained 4 bronze awards for images submitted to the SWPP competition so hopefully not too far from that goal!
My wholehearted commitment to you whether it is your wedding photography or for a portrait sitting is to provide stylish, elegant images that you will treasure forever. If you like my approach – give me a call now on either 01529 241633 or +447867986887. I have bookings for 2014 already so it’s never too early!
Wow! You made it this far – I didn’t bore you too much! Now go and look at some photos!
